Mosquitos are usually pretty rough in July on the eastern side of the range. I don’t recall exactly on this trip, but most others on this side at this time of year had pretty nasty mosquitos.

Anybody been up and in the Gore Range in the last week or so?
Hi Jim,
We’re away on holiday for another week. But I noticed that the snow depth at the Rock Creek Snotel station on January 5 was the lowest for that date in the history of record-keeping at the site – dating back 32 years.See http://www.sgrhoa.net/snowpublic.htm
Aloha,
Bill

I really enjoy the info you put up , last summer I hiked the loop from gore lake , snow lake then to deluge lake . I hiked it in one day and was kinda beat. It looks pretty easy on the map, but coming down to deluge it was a slide fest. Thanks for [...]

Man, I bet that John Fielder deal was cool. Did anybody make it? Bill? I get get goose bumps just hearing ”Black Creek.”
Yes, please share a report.
I made a point to check out the event. John was careful not to reveal too much, and made sure to mention the impenetrable bushwhacking. Needless to say, some amazing photos, from Black Creek and even from the windows of his home overlooking the GORE. Worthwhile event and cause.
The pictures were great. He went into Black Creek on the secret super trail, following it to its end, then up the south fork and over the ridge to Bubble Lake (just like Theron’s trip of a few years ago). Then across the middle fork and up the east slope of Powell to the summit. Then down and over to the north fork, up onto Dora’s summit, and down into Cataract. Nice trip. He missed the waterfall coming out of Bubble Lake, and vows to return to see that.

Abe started the forum topic Cabins in the Gores in the group
Climbing and Scrambling in the Gore Range: 2 months, 3 weeks ago · ViewHello, A buddy and I stayed the night at the Deluge Lake Cabin this past weekend and had a blast (it snowed 1′+ on us and the winds were ferocious on Sat. night)! I was wondering about any other cabins any of you know about that reside in the Gorey Gores. I think I found [...]
Hi Abe,
I’m not sure how comfy you like your cabins, but there is an old (110+ years) mining cabin up on Keller Mountain that the owners – the Cooper family – have always allowed others to use. See http://www.sgrhoa.net/cooper.htm for a bit of information. Let me know if it is of interest to you.
Best wishes,
Bill Betz
Small world! Abe and I chatted while working out at the Stapleton Rec Center, not knowing who each other is – then we made the curious connection that we have read each other’s posts here.
Also, this Wednesday evening, John Fielder will give a Gore Range presentation at the Silverthorne Town Center, which includes photos of his one week trip in 2010 up Black Creek. It’s to benefit Friends of Eagles Nest Wilderness. ($15)
Small world indeed! Seriously what are the chances of that happening haha.
I really wish I could make it out Bill because I bet this dude is really interesting but gettin out to Silverthorne just for the evening might be a little tough. If you go, you should tell him to visit closer to home and I’m sure he could fill it up around here. Thanks for the invitation though and hope to see you out in the Gorey Gores!!
