
(above) Scrambling near the summit of "East Thorn". "East Thorn" is an impressive and prominent sight from Silverthorne but also a rarely climbed peak. The approach to camp is fairly long, about 7 miles one-way to Salmon Lake. Beyond the lake, a difficult, boulder-strewn, and sometimes class-3 cirque must be negotiated before getting to the west ridge. The west ridge is a 3rd and sometimes 4th class scramble (as shown in the photo).
