It looks like a cool route. I’d be worried about how loose it is.

Jim’s suggestion is one of the easier valleys as well, which is great if you don’t have that much experience but still want to have some great views and plenty of peaks to hike up. It’s also a fairly expansive area too – there’s a lot in every direction. As you go northward, the valleys [...]

Getting deep into pretty much any valley in the northern two-thirds of the range will satisfy your requirements. Sorry for the slow delay…there’s not much activity in the winter.

Mosquitos are usually pretty rough in July on the eastern side of the range. I don’t recall exactly on this trip, but most others on this side at this time of year had pretty nasty mosquitos.

Wow. Stunning and otherworldly. Great report too. Almost felt like I was there.

Yeah, you gotta be careful in Fall. That thin snow makes it treacherous; slips are easy and jagged rocks aren’t protected by a thick soft layer of snow.

Wasn’t there the fun little knife ridge on Peak W? No more than class 3, if I recall. Pic of “L” also had a nice angle on Gore Thumb.

I made the fix for you, Stan. I’ve only done that ridge in sections. Hope to do the whole thing one day, of course!

RMNP is a great place, very beautiful. So are the Gores. However, access to the Gore Range is much more challenging, so if you’re bringing the family along, RMNP is the better choice.

In reply to - Dave Wray commented on the blog post Black Creek Drainage Movie How does this area compare to RM Nat. Park? That is the only place I have been. I am from Kansas. I love to hike, but my party will have members who can not. Any suggestions? Dave · View
