On my way to Summit Cty again tomorrow, quick trip into Red/Buffalo, Eccles Pass, loop around Buffalo from Wildernest to Meadow Creek…

Successful trip to Dora Lake. Absolutely breathtaking! Had a visit from 2 ptarmigan at my tent at about 2am, and a 1-horned goat who couldn’t decide if he was curious enough to get closer to me or not…weather turned ugly Sunday afternoon and I just made it back down to treeline when the lightning and thunder really started crackin’ right above me on the ridgeline. Hard rain too…now it’s a warm shower and shark week! Good end to the good weekend. Pics will follow soon.

Dora Lake this weekend….I have not been up there as of yet and am really looking forward to it. My planned route was to Surprise Lake and then up the hill from there to Dora.

Friday! Looking toward a possible quick trip (time permitting) into Gores…perhaps loop from Frisco to Eccles Pass back to Silverthorne for a quick overnight Saturday. Should be cooler which will feel wonderful.

Climbing and Scrambling in the Gore Range: 1 year, 10 months ago · ViewThe north col route that my friend Mike and I undertook is definitely a late spring, early summer route. We climbed it the 4th of July weekend and it was definitely near the end of it’s useful life! From the Piney Lake trailhead work your way up to Long Lake toward Upper Piney. We camped [...]

Views are fantastic, was up the Spider over 4th of July weekend. Seems like a higher elevation than what it really is given it’s position at the head of the valley and 360 degree views. Have a blast!
In reply to - Jim Gabriel posted an update: Done some warm ups for the Gore over the last 3 weeks…Massive, Elbert, and Quandary. Feeling a need to separate from the masses. Leaving tomorrow night for a couple days around Booth Lake. Spider is top of the list. The pics I’ve seen from the summit looking down the Piney drainage [...] · View -
Actually changed plans and went in from Piney. Climbed the Spider via north col snow (awesome) to a saddle between Spider and point 12,200, and low 5th class on northeast face from top of snow to the summit. Ridge down to Fly was dicey but fun. Beautiful day to be on top of great peaks with wonderful views 360. Camped at Long Lake and explored Upper Piney too. Fantastic trip!

Planning a climb of the Spider and Fly. Thought approach via Booth Pass – from Booth Lake – looked best, but welcome any beta on the best climb of these two challenging peaks. Thanks!
It’s an awesome trip, just been a long time since I’ve done it. It’s a classic Gore Range scramble though: plenty of 3rd and 4th class along grassy and rocky ledges and ridges as I recall. The route wasn’t straightforward; it’s certainly unmarked. There was a good bit of winding around necessary to find the best route to the top. Share pics!

A few pics of Gore Lake to come soon! FANTASTIC, had the lake and area all to ourselves (surprised). Picture perfect, still some lingering snow at the lake. Snow Lake only now beginning to shed ice. Of course the weekend went past way to quickly…

Looking forward to a trip to Snow Lake, Gore Lake. Should be good weather and a good time in a beautiful area.
Sounds awesome. Share pics!
If you want to make a great long one day hike out of things, try starting at 5 AM at Deluge TH, then up to Snow Peak, down and up to Hail, and over to Zodiac View and then down to the TH. About 10+ hours you can expect for the motivated hiker. 16+ miles, 6800+ vert. Views on all three peaks are really quite something. Sleet could be done with some skill, we passed due to complexity and limited time.
