Alright, going in solo tomorrow for 6 days / 5 nights. Here is the plan walking out my back door in Frisco Tuesday afternoon: Day 1: North Tenmile – Gore Range Trail to camp at Eccles Pass. Day 2: cross Eccles and Red Buffalo Pass – down Gore Creek Trail – through East Vail (yuck) to Booth Lake Trail – over East Booth Pass to camp at Upper […] View

I did the loop clockwise from the Surprise Lake Trailhead. I think there is a small fee to park there during the summer. I didn’t have any trouble parking but it was a Tuesday I believe. The first time I saw the area I had come over Elliot’s Ridge from Piney Lake (Vail side) and [...]

Here’s an old Backpacker Magazine article that basically describes the route I was talking about. I hadn’t seen this until today when I started reminiscing about the last time I was up that way and found it through google.

You’ve chosen a good route so I sure don’t want to dissuade you, I was just suggesting another cool one and one that would help you avoid setting up a shuttle. I think both are similar in distance and difficulty. If you plan to summit Red then yours might be more difficult. Your Gore Creek [...]

Hi Heath, That is a good route and you would certainly enjoy it. Since I live in Frisco, I’ve been around those parts more often than any other in the Gore. I would just comment that perhaps that area might see the most hikers of the entire Gore. You are likely to encounter other backpackers [...]

Yep Theron, and the Gore Range is about the only place in North / Central Colorado that is holding any snow at all. I’ve been mountain-biking trails around Summit County for weeks now that I couldn’t hit until July last year…. pretty amazing.

Upper Willow Lake on 6/9/12. Hiked up with the GF… had a picnic lunch and a nap and hiked back down. Been wanting to see this place for a long time… so beautiful!

More downed trees than I can remember this year in the Gore. These giant ones took out the trail intersection of the Gore Range Trail with the Eaglesmere Trail.

ThumbnailLast Tuesday through Saturday, August 23-27, 2011, I finally completed a long loop backback in the Gore Range that I had been eye-balling since I moved to Frisco four years ago. Here’s a recap of this unforgettable experience. Day 1: North Tenmile to Eccles Pass This was an easy head-start day. I hiked in about 3pm [...]

Made it back to Frisco about 6pm tonight. I’ll make a trip report once I digest it all, look at the pics, and recover. Wonderful time though. Couple small adjustments… some inadvertent, but did complete the loop. Mileage seemed even bigger than I thought it would be. Very tired and my feet hurt but so happy. Thanks for your help over east booth…[Read more]

      Hi Scott,
What a great trip you have planned! Best of luck, especially day 4 – Powell, then down Black Creek and over to Slate – that’s a long day. I hope you’ll post a trip report and some pictures.

Thanks for that… I had not read it and that helps… looks like the author is recommending East Booth Pass. I wish I could help you a little more, but I never really knew I was near Eisemann Hut until it was all over and I looked back at what had happened later. I never [...]
