Let the snowshoeing begin! Snow in the Gore Range as of about 1-2 hours ago… Hopefully the winter 2010/11 forecasts are right and we are going to have above average precip, slightly colder than average temps. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. View

The colors are full, red and yellow, with some oranges. The days now are clear (today) and hoping it will stay that way for a few more until it all falls off.

Seems like the pattern is that it snows in late September, then everything melts off and dries out for a bit for about two weeks. Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to enjoy those super clear, crisp and beautiful Fall days in the Gores.

I have been up Hail Peak 3 times this season. His first 7/7/10 ascent was on the north face. Apparently he is trying to get to it in all matter of fashion. I don’t sign those things, but went up with D. Goldwater this spring, then lead two trips up to it with others, both [...]

The solitude guy named Joe may have some copies for sale, try him at his last known address. Box 1342 Dillon, CO 80435. Maybe he’ll autograph it for you if you ask nicely. Its fun to watch what one can find when googling for keywords. Peak L, 13,213 http://pastie.org/1165971 http://pastie.org/1165974 Gore Thumb http://pastie.org/1165979 Maybe that [...]

If you want to make a great long one day hike out of things, try starting at 5 AM at Deluge TH, then up to Snow Peak, down and up to Hail, and over to Zodiac View and then down to the TH. About 10+ hours you can expect for the motivated hiker. 16+ miles, 6800+ vert. Views on all three peaks are really quite something. Sleet could be done with…[Read more]

This past week, a long but good one. Aug 5th, Booth Lake patrol work. Aug 9th, Mount Powell. Aug 10th, Snow/Hail/Zodiac View. In between I had day hikes that focused on mushrooming. What a season we are having, and NAMA is going on right now in Winter Park. Boom, great year for hiking and mycology.

Awesome, thanks for sharing those, nice panoramas. BTW, in the photo, ”Nela doing the honors at Gore Lake…”, the mountain is Hail Peak. Willow is beyond to the northeast.
